Career Retrospective
For more than a decade, Taylor has worked in a variety of roles and industries developing a keen understanding of what it takes for a brand to thrive.
2009-2014
Buyer Apparel, Roxy
Where it all began: she worked alongside a small team of buyers to help revive the Roxy brand after the surf industry crash of 2008 — curating product, stewarding inventory as the business grew from 20 to 80 stores, and shaping early private-label programs designed to protect margins and build back brand identity.
2012-2014
Owner, The Little Shop
She simultaneously opened and operated a small neighborhood shop, curating vintage, handmade, and everyday objects while collaborating with local artists and shops to create gatherings around craft, film, and community. In 2014, she closed its doors to move to Philadelphia, carrying that foundation with her as she continued learning the rhythms of retail at a larger scale.
2014-2020
Senior Buyer Gift, Urban Outfitters
She went on to experience large-scale buying and growth in the novelty gift division of Urban Outfitters - learning how to read demand, shape assortments, study consumers, and bring new categories to market at speed. Often working bicoastally, she helped turn a gift division around by introducing new product worlds, guiding exclusive launches from concept to floor, and building deep relationships across a global network of brands, licensors, and artists.
2020-2021
Director of Curation & Partnerships, People's
She then entered the cannabis industry, a space frequently referred to by insiders as the “Wild West.” There she led curation, merchandising, marketing, and education for all products coming into the store. She built clearer systems for marketing and inventory planning — unlocking new revenue streams while bringing structure and visibility to how resources were allocated. She completed a year of the EOS training, taking what resonated and leaving the rest.
2021 -
Taylor Sell Consulting
After the breadth and intensity of this journey, she recognized an opportunity to shape a role that fully leveraged her skills, judgment, and perspective. This led her to establish an independent practice designed to move fluidly between industries with clarity — helping brands, licensors, and founders navigate complexity with creative solutions
